Au Pair in China Programme 


Families in China are looking for au pairs to help their children explore the English culture and language. In exchange for helping them learn English, you get to explore the Chinese culture and language and receive practical benefits such as flights, accommodation and food. This makes au pairing through BMC is an affordable way to experience living abroad.

What's Included?

  • Return Flights

  • Accommodation and meals with your host family

  • Monthly 'pocket money' of 1,500RMB  (a meal out = 20RMB) 

  • At least: 1.5 days off a week, 1 weekend off a month and 3 days paid holiday

  • Contract completion bonus for 6 months+ stays

  • 5 hours of Mandarin lessons a week

Not Included: 

(You are responsible for covering these costs, but we provide full assistance without charge)

    • For UK citizens: Basic Disclosure

  • Health Check:

    • Relevant medical form and signature from your local GP

  • Chinese Visa

    • Prices can vary. For UK citizens, a Chinese visa is £85 plus postage and application centre fees

  • Travel costs to your departure airport



Requirements & Responsibilities

Our au pairs and host families both have requirements to meet, to ensure that expectations are clear on both sides

Au pairs



* Be between the ages of 18-29 (inclusive) at the time of travel.

* Be proficient in English

* Have a clean criminal record

* Be fit and healthy enough to work with children

* Have completed secondary education or equivalent

* Are passionate about working with children

* Have a desire to learn about China

* Possess good communication skills


Details of your responsibilities are finalised in the placement agreement between you and your hosts, but usually include:

* Up to 30 hours a week of au pairing.

* Childcare: morning routine, school runs, bedtime etc

* 'English playtime' 

* Teaching English through games, song, activities etc

* Light household chores (helping with dinner, washing up etc)


You will be a role model for your little brother or sister and a guest in a family home, so mutual respect is important. 

Host families


* Provide the au pair with a private bedroom with broadband

* Provide the au pair with at least three meals a day

* Provide the au pair with monthly pocket money

* Ensure the au pair has time to attend language and culture courses

* Treat the au pair as a member of the family and respect their culture


* Healthy and without criminal record

* Financially able to support an au pair

* Live in a house suitable for hosting an au pair

* Have a desire to learn about the UK

* Happy to introduce an au pair to Chinese culture

* Possess good communication skills


All our host families are checked by our partner in China for suitability.
